Barcelona have the perfect opportunity to lump yet more pressure on Real Madrid here. The Catalan side has narrowed the gap at the top of La Liga from nine points to five and if the leaders don’t get the win against Getafe at the Bernabeu stadium Barca could go to bed on Sunday night trailing by just two points.
To get themselves warmed up for this match, Barcelona beat Celtic Glasgow by three goals to two at Celtic Park on Wednesday in the first leg of the knock out stage of the Champions league. The Scottish side was leading twice in the match but two goals from Leo Messi and a terrific effort from Thierry Henry all but sealed Celtic’s fate. They now have to travel to the Nou Camp next week and score at least two goals if they want any chance of going through.
The Champions league win was Barca’s thirteenth consecutive game in all competitions without a defeat and everything indicates that come Sunday this will be extended to fourteen. Levante really don’t have a hope in hell of getting anything from this match, and will be praying for a miracle before traveling to the Nou Camp.
Even though they have lost just once in the last five matches –eight points from a possible fifteen- they still find themselves very much at the bottom of the league and a whopping ten points from salvation. Their away form has been a disaster this season too. Of the eleven matches played away from their Ciutat de Valencia stadium, they can boast just one win and one draw. Not the kind of statistics anyone would like before visiting the Nou Camp.
